Persimmon (Kaki) Yokan

Persimmons are the edible fruit they are sweet, and slightly tangy with a soft to occasionally fibrous texture. I remember when I was a little girl in Japan, I climbed up to a persimmon’s tree and grab some fruits and they are so fresh, sweet and delicious.

A small parcel arrived from my parents in Japan the end of last year containing lots of Japanese sweet and snacks for my kids and there they put one of my favorite Japanese sweet yokan with persimmon flavor.

Yōkan (羊羹) is a thick jellied dessert made of red bean (or white bean) paste, agar and sugar and sometimes with match flavor or cooked chestnuts in it.

This week is a quit hectic that kids are back to school, waking up early again and making lunch, but I could find a little time to enjoy this persimmon yokan and strong green tea. My mom says when you are tired, have a little bit of sweet and tea. They make you relax and happy and more energy. Sure they did and they were delicious.
